Frankincense Trail
Documentary

D. Gary Young's Journey in his Frankincense Trail Documentary Film

D. Gary Young in 2010 created a Documentary Film on the Frankincense Trail.  He performed and organized a small group of members to perform in his film. He comments below in how this began his desire for the Unity of all people:

"I have been traveling and conducting research throughout the countries of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Ethiopia, Socotra Island and Oman in search of the ancient knowledge of frankincense and myrrh that has been lost to the world for centuries.

After 20 years and 16 trips to Arabia, I wrote an historical novel and made a documentary film called, "The One Gift" to bring to our modern world an understanding of these ancient caravans and how their great contribution of language, commerce and healing have influenced the development of our world.

With the political and religious unrest in so many of our Eastern countries, it is perhaps time to look at a way to diffuse some of the negative energy and bring people together.
I would like to create a cause in which people everywhere in the world could be involved. The purpose of focusing on history is to come to understanding of how we can make a better outcome in today's world.

During the filming of my documentary, I organized and led several camel caravans and found the experience to be enlightening and rewarding. I have felt a compelling desire to share that experience with all those who would be a part of a
greater peace movement. "

My dream has slowly grown into a possibility........... it is now taking place in an upcoming trail in July 2016.
Gary's Search

D. Gary Young in his search for Frankincence and its legendary stories began the writing of his book: "The One Gift" along with his documentary film, on the 'Frankincense Trail'.  A preview of the film is below:

Frankincense Trail Legend

In ancient times the Frankincense Trail was considered to be the most important commercial route throughout southern Arabia.
For 3,000 years before the birth of Christ, frankincense was more valuable than gold. Its sweet-smelling aromatic smoke and precious oil was used and treasured by Pharaohs and Caesars. Their insatiable demand for frankincense created a trade route from the southern coast of Oman to the Holy Lands. (See BBC documentary below).

Over the centuries men waged war and civilizations thrived and crumbled.
The treacherous 2,000-mile journey from the Arabian Sea to the shores of the Mediterranean was undertaken by masterful desert traders, who risked their lives in this precious trade.  Vast camel caravans carried thousands of tonnes of frankincense across tribal lands constituting the modern-day Middle East.
Frankincense is believed by many to be the first substance to be traded worldwide and was a key part of the Middle East economy 2,500 years ago.

During the height of its popularity the Boswellia tree, better known as the frankincense tree - rivaled gold, silk and gems in value. It spawned a vital trade route that for centuries extended from Southern Arabia into West Africa and India.
Frankincense was so revered, that it was said that the Queen of Sheba built a palace in the ancient port of Samhuran (near present day Salalah) along the ancient trade route, where she would hoard large quantities for her own personal use.

Throughout time, Frankincense equally imparted spiritual importance. The Roman Emperor Nero burned an entire harvest of frankincense during his wife’s elaborate funeral. The Bible’s New Testament also tells the story of the Three Wise Men presenting a gift of frankincense along with gold and myrrh to the Christ child- baby Jesus. Frankincense was a fabulous source of wealth for its growers from at least 1000 B.C. until about A.D. 700.

A most fascinating find has shown proof of the route's existence. It was found during the discovery of a treasure-trove of more than 65 separate archeological sites. Two of the most important findings are a pair of ancient fortresses virtually identical to one the team had previously uncovered at Ubar. These stone caravansaries guarded portions of the route used by camel caravans to transport the valuable spice from the forbidding land of its origin to the centers of civilization.

Today we can enjoy the virtues of Frankincense and Sacred Frankincense that Young Living Essential Oil Company is privileged to harvest/distill and sell outside of Oman.
